Provenance: John and Marjorie Rappaport; Susan Leftstad, their daughter;Mosadi’s African-American
Art, Denver; private New York collection. According to letters from the family, this head was
commissioned by Marjorie Rappaport.The Rappaports were friends and patrons of Barthé during
his Jamaica period (1949 -1969), and they commissioned several works by him.
