Provenance: private collection.
WalterWilliams painted this work during his last year living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He
lived there for four years, with the help of a $1,500 award from the National Institute of Arts and
Letters and sales from work sent to Roko Gallery in NewYork. He returned to the U.S. only briefly
in 1963 before moving on to Copenhagen the next year. Hanks pp. 13-14.
